For our evening events this year, we have had a "war stories" theme, and have invited well known and respected agencies to share their tales from the front lines of agency management: honest, warts and all accounts of the challenges faced, mistakes made, lessons learnt and the hurdles overcome in their battle for growth.
For our last event of the year we have David Bell, Founder of Cheetham Bell sharing the stories of their journey, through acquisition and beyond. We will also be inviting Chris Broadbent from MediaCom, winner of the 2015 UK Agency Award for culture, to share how they have developed a strong agency culture and how this has impacted on their new business and growth.
Sandwiched in between our two agency speakers will be former agency head and consultant Nigel Sarbutts, who will be sharing what clients really want from their agency relationships and how to ensure that you are building a strong relationship with the right people on the client side.

Chris started his 30 years in the ad industry at J Walter Thompson in Manchester in December 1984, moved to McCanns, TMD Carat and Feather Brooksbank before launching Brilliant Media in Manchester in 2002.
After graduating with a Ph.D in Ancient Greek from Edinburgh University, David decided against becoming a vicar or lecturer, headed to Manchester and quickly ended up in the world of advertising. He set up Cheetham Bell in 1992 with Andy Cheetham. The agency grew to become regarded as Manchester’s creative hotshop winning clients such as Vimto, Umbro and the Manchester Evening News. Cheetham Bell merged with JWT Manchester in 2001 to form CheethamBellJWT and worked on many famous brands such as Kelloggs Cornflakes, Lemsip, Magnet Kitchens and John West.
Nigel Sarbutts brings the experience of 30 years in the marketing communications business and has been the MD of 3 agencies, which have all experienced substantial growth under his direction. He now works as a consultant to clients who understand the thought behind David Ogilvy’s memorable phrase: “Clients get the advertising they deserve.” He helps clients and their marketing teams and agencies get a better understanding of what each party needs from the other to produce great work with minimum friction.

When & Where
The Art of New Business
The Art of New Business is a collaborative network of like-minded individuals set up by Karla Morales-Lee and Sarah Bradley. Our focus is on finding new ways of winning business, and giving support and advice to each other. We run events in London and Manchester for new business executives, managers and directors working in the creative sector. For each event we select speakers who can inspire our network to think differently about what they do and how to do it. We want to lead the search for ‘a better way’. That means better people, better processes, better tools and better results. Bringing in new business for your agency can often be a lonely, high pressured job, so this network has been set up to support and inspire those of you facing daily pressure to bring in new business, often in silo from the rest of their organisation.
