Improving employee well-being, while still managing absence

Speakers: 

  • Simon Loy, Senior Employment Partner, Square One Law
  • Nicole Addis, Consultant Psychotherapist and Managing Director of Peel Psychological Consulting.

Employee absence due to psychological illnesses such as stress, depression and anxiety are ubiquitous and costs UK businesses a staggering £32billion per year, with the annual cost of presenteeism being “twice that of absenteeism. 

Simon Loy and Nicole Addis will jointly deliver a session on how to improve wellbeing in the workplace as well as managing cases which cross the line. Nicole will look at work related stress, how stress turns off the thinking brain and then how to turn it back on again and move from disengagement to reengagement in the workplace.

Simon will discuss the sensitive issue employers frequently face where a minority of employees take advantage of the system. He will look at how to spot such cases, manage the situation and finally the do's and dont's during the management phase. 

 

Simon Loy, Square One Law

Simon Loy is a  leading international employment lawyer who has recently returned to the North East to join Square One Law from Nissan Europe SAS in Paris.

He has over 20 years' experience in employment law and employee relations and specialises in restructuring and re-profiling of workforces; executive service agreements and terminations; employee relations includingTrade Unions and best practice policy and procedure development.

Simon previously worked for Eversheds until 2014, as Head of its North East Employment Team in Newcastle and is well known in the region.

He has previously worked on a number of landmark reported cases including advising an international aggregates company on its merger, which affected over 10,000 employees and defending one of Europe's largest employers against an equal pay challenge, as well representing a former Lord Chancellor on employment issues arising from a public sector reorganisation.


Nicole Addis, Peel Psychological Consulting

Nicole Addis is a Consultant Psychotherapist and Managing Director of Peel Psychological Consultancy. She is an experienced supervisor, trainer and UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) registered psychotherapist who has over 10 years’ experience treating a variety of psychological problems including mood disorders, anxiety, anger management, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and low self-esteem.

Nicole has notably developed two new psychological models, currently being rolled out in industry, medicine and law, for the prevention of Secondary Traumatic Stress (STS), Burnout and Compassion Fatigue (BCF) suffered by individuals working in demanding helping professions. She has also travelled across the county delivering training and CPD within a variety of sectors on a range of topic based on “talking therapies.”

 

Please arrive at 18:00 for registration.

The AGM will take place at 18.15, followed by the presentation at 18:45 with time for question and answers and networking.
