About this event

The Friends of Agnes Riley Gardens have teamed up with Urban Canopy to offer a FREE after-school Nature Club in the Community Garden this May.

Nature Club takes place on Wednesdays from 4:30pm until 6pm starting on 4th May until 25th May 2022.

When booking via Eventbrite, you must book for each date you would like to attend. Please book one ticket for each child attending - it is not necessary to make bookings for adults. Please note that these sessions are 'stay-and-play' and parents must attend to supervise children.

These are some of the activities we'll be doing at Nature Club:

Wednesday 4th May - May Day Spring Wreaths

Children will collect leaves and flower heads from the garden and the wider park, and use these to make a spring-time wreath. We will also plant some fast-growing seeds into vegetable beds, and sunflower seeds into pots.

Wednesday 11th May - Seed Sowing and Taking Cuttings

Children will learn about propagation techniques in more detail, and practice sowing seeds of various sizes. They will learn how to take cuttings and how to root them into pots.

Wednesday 18th May - Pricking Out and Potting On

Children will be able to prick out and pot on seedlings that they have grown. We will also learn about how to plant-out seedlings into vegetable beds.

Wednesday 25th May - Harvesting and Making Seed Bombs

Children will learn how to harvest food from the garden, and learn how to save and store seeds from fruits. They will collect enough seeds to make a seed bomb that they can take home.

Please note:

In the case of bad weather, Nature Club will proceed as planned. It is the parent's responsibility to decide whether you wish to attend or not. The only time we will cancel a session due to bad weather is in the case of forecast thunderstorms. If a session needs to be cancelled due to thunderstorms or due to staff and volunteer absence as a result of Covid isolation, an email will be sent out to all attendees via Eventbrite to let you know.

If you book a space but are unable to attend, please let us know so that we can open that space to another attendee.
