The UK Agri-Tech Centre invites you to join us for an insightful farm tour and networking lunch at Newton Farm, kindly hosted by the Roderick family, to see and hear about the implementation of agri-tech in a mixed farming system.
Through various demonstrations of precision livestock technologies, industry speakers and a panel session, this event offers a valuable update on practical, high-impact agri-tech currently available to Welsh and British family farms.
You will learn about a number of exciting projects involving the Roderick family and technologies currently in use on the farm, including:
- Autonomous and in-field weighing of sheep and cattle for effective livestock management
- Advanced sheep handling and drenching with UK Agri-Tech Centre’s resident parasitologist Dr Bethan John
- On-animal sensors for health monitoring in beef rearing and finishing
- AI and remote sensing to track and measure biodiversity
We will also be joined by the Advance Manufacturing and Research Centre for a demonstration of their autonomous tractor in conjunction with a local machinery manufacturer.
Following a networking lunch, the day will conclude with a panel session featuring industry leaders who will discuss how technology can make the Welsh red meat sector more efficient and resilient.
About Newton Farm
Newton Farm is located just south of Brecon and is owned and operated by Richard and Helen Roderick, along with their son Tudor. They farm 850 acres including 200 acres dedicated to regenerative farming and manage stabiliser cattle, a flock of 800 ewes and an arable enterprise. The Roderick’s are passionate about carbon sequestration, grassland management and animal health, and aim to build a profitable and sustainable mixed farm that enhances biodiversity and preserves the farm’s natural and historical features. To achieve this, their strategy focuses on sustainability, genetics, and maximizing the use of forage and root crop.
