Study Day for Teachers and Sixth Form Art History and Art & Design students exploring a range of Islamic Art

About this Event

‘What is Islamic Art?’ This study day is aimed at A level Art History and Art & Design students and teachers.

We will explore a range of works from Mughal miniatures to calligraphy, Islamic architecture in Spain, to discussing the concept of Orientalism in the context of Leighton House itself.

Students will learn about significant works, some linked to the A level Art History syllabus, (see:www.arthistoryinschools.org.uk/alevelresources) and have a chance to practise some calligraphy.

Speakers include Daniel Robbin, Senior Curator, Leighton House, Dr Anna McSweeney lecturer in Art History at University of Sussex, Melanie Gibson, Trustee of Leighton House and associate lecturer, Courtauld Institute and Emily Hannam, Assistant Curator of Islamic and South Asian Collections, Royal Collections Trust.
