This session will discuss Algorithms of Oppression, by Dr. Safiya Noble.

Run by Giulia Gentile, these meetings are open to LLB, LLM and PhD students to discuss books and papers regarding the impact of AI on individual freedoms/fundamental rights. Rights, principles and freedoms we could touch upon in the reading group could be, for example:

(a) freedom of expression and the right to receive information,

(b) the right to vote,

(c) the right to private life and data protection,

(d) the principles of equality, non-discrimination and proportionality in administrative action,

(e) the principle of transparency and duty to state reasons by public authorities.
