AI In Healthcare seminar: Dr Paul O'Regan
Overview
Please join us for the latest in our AI in Healthcare seminars when Dr Paul O'Regan will be discussing his work:
Seminar delivered by Dr Paul O'Regan from CRUK
bio: I did my PhD and a post-doc in molecular & cell biology, studying DNA repair. I then joined Pfizer R&D, initially as a bench scientist working on target discovery & validation, and later as a clinical scientist designing clinical trials. I briefly worked at NIHR as a software product owner, and then as a medical writer. I joined Digital Cancer Research (formerly digital Experimental Cancer Medicine Team) at the CRUK National Biomarker Centre in 2017 as a clinical informatician. My main research interest is in clinical decision support software for precision medicine.
Overview of the talk:
For cancer patients who have exhausted standard of care treatment options, participation in a clinical trial can be a way to access further treatment. However, matching a given patient to a clinical trial presents a challenge, due to the volume and complexity of information clinicians need to consider in choosing the best option. Working closely with clinicians at The Christie, the Digital Cancer Research team have developed software to support clinicians in identifying potential clinical trials for their patients. The presentation will illustrate the challenges involved and describe the ways we are using AI to address these challenges.
The talk will be held in person, in the Emmeline Suite at the Christabel Pankhurst Institute at the University of Manchester, and also via a Teams link (sent out with the meeting details):
