Title: AI policy in higher education through an ecopedagogical frame
Speaker: Dewa Wardak
Chair: James Lamb, Centre for Research in Digital Education
Venue: online
Abstract:
Ecopedagogies are an area of educational research and practice that support critical examinations of the politics of socio-environmental connections through local, global and planetary lenses. This presentation introduces a newly developed ecopedagogies framework designed to critically examine the integration of Artificial Intelligence in higher education policy for a more just and sustainable world.
The talk outlines the rationale behind the framework, its development process and its relevance to current debates on sustainability and equity in higher education.
Preliminary findings from a pilot study in the Australian context are shared, based on content analysis of AI-related education policy. The presentation invites participants to consider how ecopedagogical principles such as environmental awareness, social justice and planetary wellbeing can inform more ethical and sustainable approaches to AI integration in teaching and learning in higher education.
