About the Workshop

AI and cyber security are moving fast – and SMEs are at increasing risk of costly attacks, data breaches, and compliance pitfalls. This practical workshop will cut through the jargon and give you the tools to keep your business safe, resilient, and compliant in the age of AI.


Led by James Livsey, Cyber Security and AI Governance Specialist at Lancaster University, this interactive session takes a hands-on look at how AI, GDPR and cyber security connect and what steps you can take right now to strengthen your digital resilience.

By the end of the workshop, you’ll be able to:

  • Identify the main cyber and AI-related risks facing SMEs today
  • Complete a mini Cyber Essentials self-audit to benchmark your current level of protection
  • Build or assess an AI policy that genuinely keeps your data safe
  • Refresh your understanding of GDPR and how AI impacts data processing and privacy
  • Identify quick-win actions to improve your cyber resilience
  • Access ongoing local support and guidance

James Livsey
Cyber Security and AI Governance Specialist – Lancaster University

James supports SMEs across the UK to build resilience against digital threats. His expertise includes guiding organisations through the government-approved Cyber Essentials process and helping them develop robust AI and data policies aligned with NCSC standards.
James’ workshops are known for being clear, engaging and action-driven - giving businesses the tools to take control of their digital safety.

Priority will be given to Trafford and Stockport SMEs not previously supported by the GMFEIP fund
