Building the future with AIMday Construction
The Edinburgh Research & Innovation (ERI), the commercialisation arm of the University of Edinburgh, invites you to attend a morning to hear about two major UK construction projects- as part of their new AIMday® (Academic Industry Meeting day), facilitating companies looking to find novel and innovative solutions to the challenges the Construction industry faces.
Professor Gordon Masterton, current Chair of Future Infrastructure at the University of Edinburgh, comes to speak on the £15bn Crossrail development in London – Europe’s largest construction project to date. Professor Masterton until recently was Vice-President of Jacobs Engineering and served as the UK Government’s Project Representative on Crossrail. Professor Masterton will discuss the challenges of delivering a major infrastructure project, which has bored 41 km of new 6.2m diameter rail tunnels under the City of London and will connect 40 stations from Reading and Heathrow in the west, through to Shenfield and Abbey Wood in the east of the city.
Representatives from Transport Scotland will discuss Scotland’s biggest transport infrastructure project in a generation, the Forth Replacement Crossing. Representing a total Scottish Government investment of £1.325 to £1.35bn (at 2016 prices), the unique bridge to be known as the Queensferry Crossing forms the centrepiece of a major upgrade to the cross-Forth transport corridor.
AIMday is a free full day event, attendence for the latter half of the event needs prior registration with an innovation question posed at University of Edinburgh academics. However, the morning talks regarding both Crossrail and the Queensferry crossing are freely accessible to those with an interest in the delivery of major infrastructure projects.
Please register below to secure your place at the Edinburgh Centre for Carbon Innovation on the 3rd of October for a morning of talks. Interested companies who may wish to register for the full AIMday Construction should register at the AIMday website: www.aimday.se/construction-edinburgh-2016
