Akrobatik is a veteran hip-hop artist from Dorchester, Boston, known for his sharp lyricism, commanding voice, and socially conscious rhymes. A mainstay in Boston’s underground rap scene since the late '90s, he first broke through with the 1998 single “Ruff Enough,” followed by underground favorites like “Internet MCs” and “Say Yes Say Word.”

Akrobatik gained wider recognition as a member of The Perceptionists, a trio alongside Mr. Lif and DJ Fakts One. Their critically acclaimed 2005 album Black Dialogue solidified his place as a thought-provoking lyricist with a dynamic stage presence.

In 2003, Akrobatik released his debut solo album Balance, which climbed to No. 4 on CMJ’s Hip-Hop chart and showcased his lyrical versatility and depth. His follow-up, Absolute Value (2008), dropped under Fat Beats Records and was praised by outlets like AllMusic, HipHopDX, and PopMatters for its intelligent songwriting and strong collaborations.

Beyond albums, his music has found its way into pop culture through appearances in HBO’s The Wire, ESPN’s Playmakers, and video games like NBA Live ‘06, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, and UFC. His work blends classic boom-bap influences with modern-day consciousness, making him both a nostalgic and relevant voice in hip-hop.

In 2011, Akrobatik faced a life-threatening health scare when he suffered a ruptured heart valve. He underwent emergency surgery and made a full recovery — a journey that shaped the themes of his 2014 album Built to Last, which Spin named one of the year’s best hip-hop albums.
