Alan Kitching and John L. Walters in Coversation
Join letterpress legend Alan Kitching in conversation with celebrated design journalist John L. Walters to launch the bookshop edition of Alan Kitching: A Life in Letterpress.
From his early years as an anonymous ‘back-room boy’ of British design, to his rise to prominence in the Clerkenwell print scene of the mid-1990s, in one way or another Alan Kitching has been at the centre of British graphic design for the last 50 years. John L. Walters’ comprehensive biographical monograph of Kitching’s life and work not only documents the typographer’s extraordinary career to date, but also provides a rare, behind-the-scenes glimpse into the day-to-day lives and studios of some of the most pivotal figures in British art and design.
At this one-off, exclusive event, Kitching and Walters will discuss Kitching’s experience and insights into the working lives of artists and designers including Anthony Froshaug, Hansjörg Mayer, Diter Rot, the Boyle Family, Derek Birdsall, Alan Fletcher, Colin Forbes and Celia Stothard, Kitching’s late partner in life and work for sixteen years.
The event will include a 30 minutes ‘in-conversation’ between Alan Kitching and John L. Walters with plenty of time at the end for audience questions. The in-conversation will be followed by a book signing by Kitching and Walters with Alan Kitching: A Life in Letterpress bookshop edition available at 35% discount.
Each ticket holder will receive one complimentary drink upon arrival with access to a paid bar afterwards. Spaces are limited to 50, so book early to avoid disappointment.
