About this Event

This training is free to all professionals & volunteers in the Blackburn with Darwen area

Many people enjoy a drink (around 90% of the adult population), and most will come to no harm through their drinking habits. However, the alcohol related harm, directly or indirectly affects individuals, families and the broader community. This one day course seeks to highlight and broaden knowledge around alcohol related issues in an interactive and interesting way. The course will explore the effects of alcohol and identify the harms that can result from misuse. The session will also offer an opportunity to understand what can be done to reduce the health and social costs of alcohol misuse, particularly reducing harm to individuals and communities.

By the end of the session participants will have:

  • Explored a range of attitudes about alcohol and its place in society
  • Raised awareness about the use of alcohol in our society, and understand what is meant by safer drinking guidelines
  • Considered the different ways in which people use alcohol, and the possible consequences of misuse
  • Had the opportunity to consider how harm reduction approaches can be utilised to effect positive behaviour change among users and deliver extended brief interventions
