About This Course
This 4-hour course will be taught on MS Teams by one of our friendly and experienced trainers in Chesterfield.
It is free for people who work with Derbyshire residents (thanks to Derbyshire County Council). If you work outside Derbyshire, there is a ticket price.
Who Is It For?
This course is for people who work with adults in Derbyshire, such as in health, social care or community roles, who want to boost their knowledge and feel more confident when talking to people about alcohol use.
What You Will Learn
You’ll learn:
- How alcohol affects society
- The current UK alcohol advice
- How alcohol affects the body in the short and long term
- How to tell if someone is drinking at a risky level
- How to help someone reduce their risk
- How to give a brief intervention to support and motivate change
- How to refer people to specialist alcohol support
What to Expect
The course is:
- Delivered by an expert trainer
- Group activities and practice time
- A chance to ask questions and build your confidence
- An opportunity to meet and network with other Derbyshire professionals
By the end, you’ll feel more confident helping someone with their alcohol use. In fact, 100% of learners say they feel more confident doing a brief intervention after taking the course.
Who are we?
Since 2017, Derbyshire Addictions Advice Service has worked as part of Derbyshire Recovery Partnership to deliver this training. We’ve designed this course to be easy to understand, even if you’re new to the topic or want to refresh your skills and knowledge. It will also include all the up-to-date treatment options available in Derbyshire.
