This course aims to increase awareness of alcohol use and provides information to help front line workers begin to assess clients for alcohol problems and how to refer people into effective specialist services.

Course description

This two hour knowledge-based alcohol training course will look the issues surrounding alcohol use. It is an interactive training programme which can help ensure that you have the skills, knowledge and confidence to support people affected by alcohol.

The course covers a range of topics exploring the impact of alcohol on individuals, families and society, and the support that is available.

Learning outcomes

• An enhanced awareness and understanding of the problems caused by alcohol in UK and in Hounslow .

• Increased knowledge of the effects of alcohol on individuals and those around them.

• Greater awareness of interventions and support services available.

• Increased confidence and skills to work with and support people with alcohol problems.

• A better understanding of how to engage in local activity to reduce alcohol harm:

Topics covered:

- How alcohol units are measured ?

- How do you differentiate between safe alcohol use, misuse, abuse and dependency ?

- Impacts of alcohol on health holistically

- How to refer to ARC Hounslow service

- Treatment pathways on offer

Target audience

This course is open to non-specialist service providers who come into contact with clients who may have alcohol issues. It is also open to workers new to this area of work and is suitable for people who may need to develop their knowledge of drugs and alcohol such as;

• Police Community Support Officers

• Social Workers

• Youth Workers

• Anti-Social Behaviour Workers

• Youth Offending Teams

• Probation Staff

• Housing Officers

• Supported Housing Workers
