This event is the inaugural meeting fo the Alcohol Independent Traders Group (AITG).
Notice 2002: Alcohol Wholesaler Registration Scheme (AWRS) is now in full effect and poses a real concern for many businesses within the independent sector of the alcohol industry. One immediate concern, for businesses caught by the AWRS, is that recent amendments by HMRC to the notice mean that businesses will be legally required to obtain definitive evidence of duty payment for all goods supplied to them. This is practically and commercially impossible to achieve. How will you be able to continue to trade legally? How can this requirement be lawful when HMRC instruct the businesses generating documentary proof of duty payment to not release them to third parties?
This is merely one of the many challenges the industry faces with the introduction of the AWRS. The interests of large corporate businesses have been represented, however you must act now to challenge this amendment and ensure the voice of the independent sector is represented.
This event will be a round the table discussion with other independent businesses to discuss the issues facing the industry at present. We will be discussing:
legal challenges to the above mentioned amendments
forming a pressure group to ensure the independent sector is not treated unfairly
forming a group of like minded businesses to be able to better demonstrate patterns of disruption where businesses encounter problems with registration
inviting you to put forward any ideas you have as to how the group could assist.
The meeting will be held on 11th October 2016 at the Mercure London Hotel Watford.
