Description

Blackwell’s Bookshop at Westgate is delighted to welcome Alexander McCall Smith to Oxford for an evening celebrating 20 years of the No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency.

This year, 2018, marks the 20th anniversary of first publication of The No.1 Ladies’ Detective Agency. The book has fans throughout the world and has never been out of print. Alexander will talk about the captivating world of Precious Ramotswe as well as his life and many other literary works.

Alexander McCall Smith is one of the world’s most prolific and most popular authors, having written over 100 books. His career has been a varied one: for many years he was a professor of Medical Law and worked in universities in the United Kingdom and abroad. His various series of books have been translated into over forty-six languages and become bestsellers through the world. These include the 44 Scotland Street novels, first published as a serial novel in The Scotsman, the Isabel Dalhousie novels, the Von Igelfeld series, and the Corduroy Mansions series.

In addition to a new No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency coming out this Autumn, Alexander has five other books out this year, including a new Isabel Dalhousie novel. So it is truly a bumper year for McCall Smith fans!

Alexander will be in conversation and then there will be an opportunity for questions from the audience, followed by a book signing and your chance to meet the man himself.

Tickets are £6 and may be purchased on Eventbrite, over the phone (01865 980380) or at Blackwell's Westgate. You can save on the booking fee by purchasing in the shop or by phone.
