Alice Loxton in conversation with Jonnie Fielding at Waterstones Piccadilly

We're delighted to host an evening with bestselling author and historian Alice Loxton to celebrate her latest book, Eleanor. The author of Eighteen and Uproar! delivers another utterly immersive journey into the past, this time exploring the little known story of England's forgotten queen Eleanor of Castile and walking the entire 200-mile funeral route that took her body from Lincoln to London in 1290.

Alice will be in conversation with tour guide and author Jonnie Fielding, aka Bowl of Chalk.

Alice Loxton is one of Britain’s most exciting young historians. She has been a pioneer in bringing history to new audiences through social media, and has a total following of nearly 3 million across Instagram, TikTok and Twitter. She is an experienced writer and presenter, regularly presenting documentaries on History Hit, Channel 4 and the BBC. She is the author of the acclaimed book UPROAR: Scandal, Satire and Printmakers in Georgian London, nominated for Blackwell’s Book of the Year, and Eighteen: A History of Britain in 18 Young Lives, which was an instant Sunday Times bestseller, was named Blackwell's Book of the Year and was shortlisted for Waterstones Book of the Year. Eleanor is her third book.

Jonnie Fielding is the founder of Bowl of Chalk, “One of the best London walking tours” (Time Out, London) and has been guiding people around London for over 15 years. He is a self-confessed ‘curistorian’ and runs a popular social media account where he shares quirky, fun London facts on social media platforms. In September his first book; Why is Downing Street Painted Black? And 364 other fun London facts, was published by Harper Collins. Jonnie and his walks have been featured on Radio 4, NTS Radio, The Independent, The Guardian, The Times, Time Out and a host of publications and media outlets internationally.
