Alight at The Park - 2014
Alight 2014 is the third ‘Alight at The Park’ event to be held at Moggerhanger Park, the place where Wilberforce and the Clapham Sect met to pray regarding injustice and reformation, especially concerning the slave trade.
Each year a planning team meet to seek God’s face regarding the message that is to be conveyed through ‘Alight at The Park’.
In 2012 the message was related to the Church having understanding regarding Jewish Feasts, especially Sukkot - The Feast of Tabernacles; a Feast still celebrated by Jewish people as having relevance for them in the past, present and future. For the Church it also heralds a future event concerning Jesus Christ and His coming again in glory.
In 2013 the message was related to what the Apostle Paul wrote concerning Jew and Gentile being one new man through the work of the cross. The Park was blessed to have a Jewish and Arab believer from Israel speak on this matter; that message can be viewed here (click tab for ‘Alight at The Park’ and view the video ‘Reconciliation in Action’).
This year’s message will be relevant to Christians within their homes, neighbourhoods, churches and towns. We will be considering the past, present and future within the concept of forty years on from an outpouring of the Holy Spirit in the UK. This is because Sat 4th October will be a day when Colin Urquhart, author of ‘When the Spirit Comes’, will be preaching about lessons learnt since he wrote the book about his experience within St Hugh’s, Lewsey, Luton. Lessons that could assist us in understanding what God wants to do in this nation through the Church at this time.
The theme of this message was inspired by Clifford Hill’s paper ‘The Second Chance’ and an article entitled ‘Take off the Graveclothes!’ written in the first Prophecy Today Magazine, of which Clifford Hill was the editor (1982 – 2005). Can the Church again be an inspiration to the community as we live alongside Muslims, Jewish people and unbelievers in our communities? Can we move forward with hope and with confidence of God’s love for this nation within an understanding of Yom Kippur, which will be being celebrated by the Jewish people on Saturday 4th October?
Other speakers will include Joe Pienaar, the present vicar of St Hugh’s. Also, those who represent Christian ministries that relate to Israel, the Jewish people and Muslims will speak throughout the weekend. Geoffrey Smith who works with ‘Christian Watchmen Over Zion’ will speak on Sunday 5th regarding Jerusalem, as we link with the A Day to Pray for Jerusalem.
Information regarding the Sukkot Celebration on Sat 11th October will be available on the CCM website closer to the event.
Q What is the programme of events for the conference?
A Look at the bottom of this page for a description of the event. (Sorry this doesn’t work well on mobile versions of Eventbrite)
Q I’ve heard that the House is special – why is this?
A Moggerhanger House is a Grade 1 listed building designed by Sir John Soane and completed in 1812. It has connections with the Clapham Sect (reforming society) and William Wilberforce (abolition of the slave trade) and so has a strong Christian heritage. House tours will be available on Sunday afternoon and a Slavery Exhibition will be open. If you are interested in the House and would like to be booked into a guided tour, please contact the organiser using the email link below for CCM & OLM
Q Where can I contact the organiser with any questions?
A Use the link at the bottom of this page to email us (CCM & OLM) you can also phone us and leave a message on 07856 252272 and we will get back to you.
Q Must I book in advance for this event?
A Yes, please book in advance. If you turn up on the day, there may not be room for you, and/or we may not be able to provide you with refreshments. It is also more helpful for us to organsise if we have accurate numbers.
Q If I try to book and the event if fully booked, is there a standby list for tickets?
A Yes, please email your information to the event organiser (link at the bottom of the page) and we will keep your information on file and contact you if more tickets become available.
Q Is there car parking on site?
A There is a hard standing car park and overflow parking on grass. Parking is free.
Q If I come for Saturday and Sunday, where can I stay overnight?
A There is no accommodation for delegates on site, but there are many small hotels and guesthouses in the area. Try this link to lastminute.com and search for accommodation in the Moggerhanger area (MK44 3RW). (Other hotel reservation and booking sites are available).
Q Is the event suitable for families / children?
A Unfortunately there will be no crèche facilities nor separate children’s activities, so we do not recommend bringing young children.
Q I came to the event last year and there were long queues for the food at the café on site. If I choose to eat at the café and not bring packed lunch on the Saturday will there still be a problem regarding queuing for food?
A The reason we request you bring packed lunch is to keep ticket prices within realistic reach of those who would attend and to avoid what was experienced by delegates last years. The café will be open during the event. If you choose to eat at the café rather than bring packed lunch there may be queues if other delegates choose the same option.
Q Will my dietary requirements be able to be met?
A Yes, the catering team can meet your dietary requirements, but you must let us know your requirements at least a week in advance. Please email the conference organiser using the link at the bottom of this page.
Q Is the conference site wheelchair accessible?
A The main meetings will be in the House on the ground floor which is wheelchair accessible. There are disabled parking spaces and accessible toilets.
Q Will there be a Hearing Induction Loop?
A Sorry, we do not have this facility
Q Will the event be recorded?
A Yes, all the main sessions will be recorded and available on the CCM website at some point after the event.
