ALIMIYYAH COURSE 2017 - 2018

Study Islamic Classical Texts with Scholars

Course Conveynors: Shaykh Faisal al-Jasem & AbdulWahid Stephenson


Madinah College is pleased to announce our Alimiyyah Programme for students of knowledge. A special 3 year programme studying the Islamic sciences with qualified scholars, professors at Islamic Universities and teachers in the Prophet's Masjid. Subjects include Tawheed, Aqidah, Fiqh, Hadith, Mustalah al-Hadith (principles of Hadith) Usul al-Quran, Nahu (Grammar) and Usul al-Fiqh. At the end of every course, students sit an examination (in Arabic or English) set by the scholars.

This is the only course of its kind currently being taught in the UK. It aims to equip students with the foundational knowledge required to have a sound understanding of Islam and gives students regular access to scholars who are specialists in their fields, teachers in Masjid al-Nabawiyyah and established Islamic Universities. On completion of the exam, students are provided with a certificate of attendance.

Aqidah (Creed)

Taught by Shaykh Faisal al-Jasem

Text: Al-Qawa'id al-Muthlaa

This course introduces the student to Islamic belief, exploring key terms as well as the historical development of sects and groups. The textbook covered on this course will be al-Qawa'id al-Muthlaa of ibn Utaymeen, which is a concise text covering the belief of Ahlus-Sunnah with reference to issues of creed.

Fiqh of Taharah and Salah (Purification and Prayer)

Taught by Shaykh Dr. Khalid al-Mushayqih, Profesor Qasim Univesity and student of Shaykh Uthaymeen

A close reading of the chapters on Taharah and Salah from the classical text in Hanbali Fiqh 'Umdatul-Fiqh of ibn Qudaamah. This text, taught widely in institutions of learning in the Muslim world, serves as an excellent foundation for a student of knowledge and is suitable for followers of all Madhabs (legal schools) due to the references to the primary sources of revelation, Quran and Sunnah.

Shaykh Faisal al-Jasem
Head of the Alimiyyah Programme, Khateeb and Imam
Shaykh Faisal al-Jasem is Madinah College Academic Advisor and the head of the Alimiyyah Programme. The Shaykh is a Khateeb, Imam and teacher in a Jaami’ in Kuwait. The Shaykh has authored many books and is a specialist in the subjects of Islamic Creed (Aqidah) and Methodology (Manhaj).


AbdulWahid Stephenson
Academic Director and Graduate of Islamic University of Madinah, Faculty of Shari’ah
AbdulWahid Stephenson has over 15 years teaching experience and has studied Islamic Jurisprudence at the prestigious Islamic University of Madinah, Saudi Arabia. He is the founder of Madinah College and Insight into Islam. He has also given a number of talks on a variety of islamic topics at top Universities in London.


Shaykh Dr. Ali al-Tuwaijiri
Islamic University of Madinah Professor in Uloom al-Quran & Teacher in Masjid al-Nabawi
He is a Professor at the renowned Islamic University of Madinah and a teacher in the Prophet’s Masjid. He has authored books on Al-Manhiyaat fi Surah al-Hujaraat , (Prohibitions in Surah al-Hujaraat), Sulh in the Quran and Sunnah and Tabseer al-Bashr bi-Tahreem al-Sihr (Prohibition of Magic). The Shaykh taught al-Muqadammah fi Usul al-Tafsir of ibn Taymiyyah at Madinah College London as part of the Alimiyyah Programme.


Shaykh Dr. Fahad al-Fuhayd
Imam bin Saud University Professor in Usul al-Deen
The Shaykh has a BA in Shari’ah from Imam Muhammad ibn Sa’ud Islamic University & a MA and PhD in Aqidah. He has been a University lecturer for over 20 years and has authored many works on the subject of Aqidah. He taught Tawheed on the Alimiyyah intensive weekend programme.


Shaykh Dr. Hamad al-Haajri
Kuwait University Professor in Comparative Fiqh
He is the head of Department of Comparative Fiqh. He holds a BA, MA and PhD from the Islamic University of Madinah. He specialises in Fiqh al-Maqarin (Comparative Fiqh) and contemporary Financial Transactions, with his PhD thesis being ‘Qawa’id wa Dawabit al-Fiqhhiyyah fi al-Damaan al-Maalee: Diraasah Maqaarinah’ (A comparative study of Fiqh Principles of Warranties). He frequently presents his research papers at seminars and global conferences. He taught Usul al-Fiqh on the Alimiyyah programme.


Shaykh Dr. Khalid al-Mushayqih
Qasim University Professor in Fiqh and Student of Shaykh Uthaymeen
The Shaykh is a professor of Islamic Law at Qaseem Islamic University. He is from the most senior students of Shaykh Uthaymeen (May Allah have mercy on him) and has authored many books on various topics, especially Fiqh and Aqeedah. He is a regular teacher in the Haram Makkah Al Mukaramah. The Shaykh has authored many books in Fiqh, ‘Ahkaam al-‘Itikaaf’ , ‘Ahkaam al-Zakat’ and undertaken checkings of Sharh Umdatul-Fiqh’ are just a few of them.



Teaching and Learning

The Alimiyyah programme courses are all taught over the course of an intensive weekend bi-monthly. It will include a close study of classical primary texts.
In general all modules will:
• consist of both lectures and revision sessions
• include visiting scholars who are specialists
• encourage classroom participation and engagement
• provide general reading materials and resources for each module
• give directed independent study, including revisions sessions and end of seminar examinations
• includes certificates of completion
