Event description

Description

Alison and Peter Smithson formed the most formidable British architectural partnership of the mid-twentieth century. With an international reputation out of proportion to the number of finished buildings they produced, they were ambitious, artistic minded, avant-garde and unashamedly intellectual.

Working within the developments of British post-war architecture, Brutalism and the emergence of postmodernism, every Smithson building was a manifesto – from the Secondary School in Hunstanton, to the hugely controversial Robin Hood Gardens and the Economist complex.

Join Mark Crinson for an illustrated discussion this evening to discuss the work of the Smithsons and why their impact on the architectural scene in Britain was so enormous as we celebrate publication of “Alison and Peter Smithson” with Historic England and The Twentieth Century Society.
