Event description

Description

A very rare London performance from the Fairy Godmother of Acid Folk, Alison O’Donnell, with London/French Folk-Noir outfit Firefay in the beautiful settings of the Servant Jazz Quarters in Dalston.

Alison is well known for her collaborations with The Owl Service and United Bible Studies, as well as for her solo work, with her recent album “Climb Sheer the Fields of Peace” having gained critical acclaim. She was also a founding member of legendary Prog-Folk band Mellow Candle, whose sublime 1972 album “Swaddling Songs” has long secured cult status.

Alison and Firefay will perform material from their recent collaborative album “Anointed Queen”, as well as delving into each other’s back catalogues.

Review of “Anointed Queen” from Folk Radio UK: O’Donnell’s voice is quite something. It swoops, it soars, it bends at incredibly obtuse angle around the tracks. It suits the material which Firefay come up with perfectly. Theirs is dark folk using all manner of droney instruments, harmoniums, accordions, strings, joined by plucked guitar here and some hand-hit percussion there.
