Event description

Description

A special afternoon performance of the concert which the orchestra will be giving the previous evening.

The wonderful, talented & spirited Youth Orchestra of Alkmaar, part of the 'Artiance' Cultural centre in Bath's Dutch twin city, and their inspirational musical director, Otto de Jong, are returning to Bath in July to help us mark 70 years of friendship between our two cities.

This will be a very special concert on the theme of "Connections": connections between the past and the present, between the young and the old, and between people from different countries and cultures.

Featuring readings from the extraordinary & moving tale of how the two cities first became linked during the Second World War, the programme will include music from John Williams, Hubert Parry, and a special orchestral arrangement of "Lilli Marlene", the famous wartime song, written for the event.

In what promises to be a memorable occasion during Bath's 'Alkmaar 70 Week', the young Dutch players will be joined in the second half by young musicians from Bath, to create our first ever international youth orchestra.

Space in St Michael's is limited - so book early to avoid disappointment!
