About this event

About the event

Sat 13 Sept 2025, 1pm - 5.30pm.

All Aboard as we trace the historic Liverpool to Manchester railway line through fresh eyes and moving words. In this creative workshop, we’ll explore the metropoem — poetry written on the move — to capture the rhythm, stories, and spirit of the journey between these iconic cities.

Using movement, place, and observation as our guide, we’ll experiment with a poetic form that invites new ways of sensing and seeing everyday life.

No experience with poetry needed — just bring your curiosity and a willingness to explore.

Led by Garance Marechal (University of Liverpool), this creative poetry journey draws on the micro-worlds of motion, place, and experience.

The workshop also includes an outward and return train journey from Edge Hill to Manchester

Outward Journey: All Aboard for Manchester leaving at 14:04

Return Journey: All Aboard for Edge Hill leaving at 15:54, returning to Metal at 16:46 for feedback and sharing

Accessibility

Metal can be found on the platform of Edge Hill Station with step-free access from the top of Tunnel Road, down the station approach. The entrance to the building is located on platform 1 and there is step-free access via the Accumulator Tower. The building has step-free access, limited to the ground floor spaces. There is a disabled toilet available on the ground floor and gender neutral toilets available on each floor, there is no accessibility lift.

Part of the workshop will involve travel by train. We recognise that access needs can vary, and we will do our best to support participants throughout the journey. Please be aware that we are using public rail services, and accessibility provision, including step-free access and staff support, may vary by station and service.

If you have any specific access needs related to the train journey (e.g. mobility support or step-free access), please get in touch with us as early as possible so we can work with you to identify the most suitable options.

We endeavour to ensure this event is open to all, so welcome you to contact us regarding any specific requirements you may have before the event.
