Wildlife I.D. online course
Thursday 14th July 7:30-8:30pm
Join a small group of fellow nature enthusiasts as we learn how to spot and correctly identify some of the many beetles, bugs and creepy-crawlies living in your neighbourhood.
Whether you are new to wildlife spotting, or want to improve your skills there is always more to learn. Using I.D keys and magnifying equipment, learn what to look out for to tell different species of insect apart.
This session is paired with the field session and we recommend you attend both courses if you can.
The course is delivered as part of the 100 Species Challenge delivered by Naturespot and we recommend you register for the challenge before the event.
The 100 Species Challenge
Can you tell your wasps from your bees? Know all about birds but get stuck on wildflowers? Expand your knowledge to become a true naturalist. Learn how to make wildlife records that will be added to the UK national database, as you work towards the target of 100 different species. Sign up for the challenge and then get recording!
Start with the wildlife you recognise - maybe a nettle, dandelion or blackbird. Make a record on Naturespot and it will be added to your dashboard. Keep going until you reach 100 and get a certificate to prove it!
We will be there to help along the way. The Naturespot website is packed with information and our dedicated team of experts will help with tricky specimens. Use the set of I.D field guides to get started.

Saving the Saffron Brook project
Leicester City Council is partnering with the Trent Rivers Trust and a number of local organisations to deliver an exciting nature conservation project in Knighton, Saffron Lane and Oadby. The scheme focuses on key sites along the Saffron Brook / Wash Brook watercourse, an important nature corridor linking urban habitats with the county and beyond. We will create habitat for otters, bats, & kingfishers, plant trees and meadow grassland and dig new ponds.
As well as improving habitats for wildlife we will be offering a range of opportunities for people to connect with nature. Whether through guided nature walks, active volunteer days, wildlife I.D. sessions or family play, we hope there will be something for everyone to enjoy. We want to make nature accessible to all and ignite people’s interest in the wildlife on their doorstep.
The Saving the Saffron Brook project is funded by the Green Recovery Challenge Fund.
