Those who have been to the all day Menopause Cafe at the Cambridge Wellness Festival in previous years know there will be a warm welcome and an opportunity to relax, chat about all-things-menopause and get support from like-minded people.
These Menopause Cafes are brought to you by CBC Ltd. They are for absolutely everyone, whether you are a member of the public, you work on the campus or you are a patient or visitor. Everyone is WELCOME. Bring your friends!
A Menopause Café is aimed at breaking down the taboo around menopause, increasing awareness of the impact of menopause on those experiencing it, their family, friends and their colleagues, and reflecting on the ‘third stage of life’.
Following the World’s first Menopause Café, held in Perth, Scotland in 2017, many pop-up Menopause Cafes have been organised worldwide, including in workplaces. For more information, please visit: http://www.menopausecafe.net/
Menopause Cafes are offered in accordance with certain principles, which are:
• With no intention of leading participants to any conclusion, product or course of action eg no speakers or businesses peddling their wares
• In an accessible, respectful and confidential space
• Open to all, regardless of gender or age
• Alongside free refreshments!
Did you know that menopausal women are the fastest-growing population at work? Or that around 8 out of 10 menopausal women are in work? Whilst some women sail through menopause, 3 out of 4 experience symptoms and as many as 1 in 4 have serious symptoms. However, around half have never consulted a healthcare professional about their menopause. Research also shows that the majority of women are unwilling to discuss menopause-related health problems with their line managers, or ask for any support they may need.
That’s why we’re encouraging people to pop along to listen to others and allow those who wish, to share their experience about menopause in an informal, confidential setting. You could be experiencing menopause yourself, be a brother, daughter, husband or wife, supporting a family member, a colleague who wants to know how they can be supportive in the workplace. The menopause café is open for all, regardless of gender, experience or age. There will not be a set agenda and there is no intention of leading people to any conclusion, product or course of action.
Let’s get the conversation going….
