On behalf of the APPG on Muslim Women Co-Chairs Caroline Nokes MP (Conservative) and Naz Shah MP (Labour) and as the Secretariat of the APPG on Muslim women, we cordially invite you to its AGM on 1st February 2022.
The event will include election of Officers and also a presentation by the Muslim Women’s Network UK on Muslim Women’s Experiences of the Criminal Justice System based on its research and cases from its national helpline.
The Ministry of Justice is currently conducting a public consultation to inform its new Victim’s Law - a Bill that will build on the foundations provided by the Victims’ Code to substantially improve victims’ experiences of the criminal justice system. Unfortunately, we have found that when Muslim women find the courage to report abuse to the police and then receive a poor service, it is not only disempowering, it results in them not getting justice and further emboldening perpetrators.
Presentation, report and consultation submission will be sent to attendees after the session.
