ALL Sixth Form Lectures - Bristol
Overview
The ALL West of England Committee is proud to bring back to you its highly popular 6th Form Lectures in French, Spanish and German. All lectures feature experienced speakers at University level and engaging topics that are linked to exam board specifications and aimed at both AS and A-level students.
The event will also include presentations from 4th Year University language students, who will give your 6th formers a taste for where their language learning journeys might take them next!
Tickets can be booked from now. The cost is £5 per student per lecture, accompanying teachers free. Please book separately for each lecture you attend.
Please note that schools are responsible for acquiring parental permission for any unaccompanied students.

SPANISH - 'El patrimonio musical y su diversidad'

GERMAN - 'Von A wie Austropop bis Z wie Zeitgeist. Eine musikalische Reise durch Deutschland und Österreich.'
Speakers: Ruth Winter & Claudia Sein, German Department, University of Bristol
Ruth and Claudia take you on a musical journey through Germany and Austria, from the iconic sounds of Austropop with legends like Falco and Reinhard Fendrich, to the cutting-edge music of Kraftwerk and German rap reflecting the contemporary zeitgeist. Learn about the evolution of music in these countries, set against their rich cultural and historical backdrops.

FRENCH - 'La Musique Francophone Contemporaine'
Speaker: Marie-Claire Marshall, French Department, University of Bristol
Join Marie for a journey through the diverse landscape of contemporary Francophone music. Marie will delve into the various genres, artists, and cultural influences that shape the modern music scene in French-speaking countries.

Our speakers:
Carmen Meira-García comes from Pontevedra, in the North of Spain. She worked in secondary schools teaching Spanish and French before joining the PGCE team at the University of Bristol in 2005. She is the tutor for Spanish. She has a keen interest in phonics and CLIL teaching. She delivered the sixth form lectures covering a wide range of topics before the pandemic so she is experienced in this area.
Ruth Winter is Senior Lecturer and Deputy Language Director at the Department of German at the University of Bristol. She has been teaching German at Bristol for more than twenty years and is module leader for the ab initio unit on the German degree programme and for the Advanced German course on the UWLP programme. Her main interests in language teaching are effective feedback, learner autonomy and plurilingual learning.
Claudia Sein is Teaching Associate at the Department of German at the University of Bristol. She joined the department in 2019 and was previously OeAD-Lektorin at the University of Aberdeen. She is module leader for Beginners German on the UWLP programme and the second-year language unit on the German degree programme.
Marie-Claire Marshall comes from Perpignan, in Southern France. She worked in secondary schools, teaching French before joining the French department as a language tutor, at the University of Bristol in 2014. She teaches French at degree level and as an additional unit, on the UWLP programme.
