All the Mountains Give / Bheir na Beanntan Uile

Dir: Arash Rakhsha, 2024, Iran, 1hr 31min Language: Kurdish with English subtitles. HIFF: 12A

A powerful account of the Kolbari covert goods trade between the Kurdish cities and towns of Iran and borders of Iraq. The film follows Hamid and Yasser over six years as they contend with the life threatening conditions they and their families have to face to survive. A rare insight into the plight of the Kurdish people, this is an elegant portrait of a marginalised people, where the palpable sense of risk and danger is contrasted with the gentle rhythms of family life under harsh conditions. Cunntas cumhachdach de mhalairt falaichte Na Kolbari, eadar bailtean mòra na Kurdish, bailtean Iran agus crìochan Iraq. Tha am film a’ leantainn Hamid agus Yasser thar sia bliadhnaichean, a measg suidheachaidhean far a bheil iad fhèin agus an teaghlach ann an cunnart am beatha gach latha. Chan ann tric a chithear àmhghar na Kurdaich, seo dealbh grinn de dhaoine a tha air an iomall, far a bheil meatraigeadh agus cunnart aon coltach ri beatha sèimh nan teaghlaichean a-staigh.

Dir: Simon Barr, Dir: Simon Barr, 2025, Ireland, 18 min

Eddie Doherty is a modest and humble man who, at the age of 84, still carries on the tradition of hand weaving the Donegal Tweed fabrics at his small shop in Ardara, Co. Donegal, Ireland. He tells his story of starting hand weaving in the 1950's, how the once booming trade declined due to modern industrialisation and now only a few hand weavers remain. ‘S duine sèimh is iriseal a th’ ann an Eddie Doherty. Aig aois 84, tha e fhathast a’ cumail air an tradisean a’ figheadh an clò mòr Dùn na nGall sa bhùth bheag an Andara, Co. Dùn na nGall, Èireann. Tha e ag innse a sgeulachd nuair a thòisich e breabadaireachd-làimhe sna 1950an, ciamar an gnìomhas aig aon àm beòthail air crìonadh ri linn gnìomhachas ùr agus a-nis, chan eil ach glè bheag de bheabadairean fhathast ann.
