About this Event

We are hosting our first pop up exhibition in Sheffield and invite guests to pop in through-out the day to find out more about our innovative products and learn something new at one of our CPD’s and talks.

With plenty of opportunity to network, guests will be able to explore the beautiful gardens and discover our superior products which will be exhibited around the site. Take the unique opportunity to gauge the exceptional quality for yourself and ask any questions that you might have. Our CPD's and talks will be held in the late afternoon. Be one of the first in the UK to try freshly cooked food cooked on one of our newly launched Christie public BBQ's and enjoy our not-to-be-missed Short Edition story dispenser.

Confirmed itinerary includes:

12noon BBQ Lunch and networking

Freshly prepared and cooked on our Christie public barbecue

1.00pm Ghesa Water & Art

“The use of the water element in the design of interactive and happy public spaces”

If you’re looking for the WOW factor on your project, Ghesa will more than deliver. Specialists in large scale water features, with over 35 years designing, installing and maintaining ornamental, cybernetic, musical and multimedia fountains. Meet their Senior Architect Joao and learn more about their global projects

1.45pm FinBin

“City Solar is a next-generation compacting smart bin”

Understand how the ingenious ‘City Solar’ works. Fitted with a patented fill-level measurement technology, which measures the fill capacity and sends automatic notifications to the responsible service provider when the bin needs emptying. With a large capacity and equipped with a solar-powered compression unit the frequency of emptying can be reduced, on a number of cases, even by 80-90%

2.00pm GREEN ROOFS CPD - Green Estates CIC – Jeff Sorrill

“Intentionally vegetating roofs is not rocket science, but it is surprisingly easy to get wrong!”

Jeff will guide you through some of the basic principals of successfully introducing plants on to buildings. As the BDM at Green Estate CIC Sheffield, he leads on green roof design and installation. Prior to joining Green Estate, Jeff was Manager of the Green Roof Centre at the University of Sheffield working with Prof. Nigel Dunnett and also a founding member of GRO (the Green Roof Organisation), the national body for overseeing green roof quality.

3.00pm Santa & Cole Urbidermis

“Urban life is witnessing a revolution”

Functional models have been overwhelmed by the demographic explosion and the climate crisis. At the same time, we want cities to be more natural and friendly. More than ever, two paces take the fore: fast-paced connectivity, coupled with a far slower pace in our movements. To achieve this we need urban living rooms, well-lit meeting points that are well-equipped and sustainable, fresh parks and boulevards for gathering. Citizens will be at the core and, although we expect to enjoy a calmer time in our lives, a city’s management on the other hand advances towards greater complexity. Learn how Santa & Cole Urbidermis are playing their part in this revolution.

3.30pm Handspring Design

“UK timbers in outdoor environments”

With an MSc in Environmental Resources and a PhD in Green Architecture, (not to even mention the BEng!) Scot Fletcher lives and breathes the principles of sustainability. Understanding that every outdoor space has different factors to consider, such as history and community, and be expressed to create authentic place-making. Handspring Design’s bespoke timber sculptures, structures and seating offer a tasteful and creative way of bringing these stories to life.

4.00pm CLIMATE CHANGE CPD – University of Sheffield – Dr Ross Cameron

“Are you confident that your landscape plans are environmentally friendly?”

Landscape horticulturalist specialising in the use and value of landscape plants. Ross’ current research centres around green infrastructure and climate change mitigation, with a strong emphasis on providing recommendations on plant species choice with respect to eco-system function (city cooling, thermal insulation, flood tolerance, biodiversity enhancement, etc.). Identifying plant species robust enough to tolerate urban conditions (both current and future), whilst meeting specifications for performance. Include investigations into Mediterranean species that tolerate winter flooding, and how warmer autumns affect development of young ornamental trees. Do you want to learn best practice to make sure you're doing everything that you can to create landscape plans that help tackle climate change? Join us as University of Sheffield present a talk on best practice.

5.00pm moveart

“Explaining HIP (Human Ignition Profile)“

Norbert CEO and designer of moveart explains Human Ignition Profiling - a participatory profiling tool used to create forms which facilitate specific types of positive human behaviour in public space. The profiling is based on Jan Gehl's Human Scale theory, and Norbert will explain how HIP can be used alongside design to increase social interaction, decrease conflict and violence and build stronger communities.

5.30pm LIGHTING CPD – All Urban Lighting Consultant - Brian Healy

“Lighting for life”

A hot topic in the industry, Brian will focus on how lighting affects the ecosystem. Explaining how to best use lighting in your plans to ensure they work in harmony with the natural habitat. Working in the lighting industry his whole career, he is passionate about equipping landscape architects with the knowledge they need to design ecologically friendly plans.
