Event description

Description

A celebration of the life and works of Scots poet Allan Ramsay and his son (also Allan Ramsay) the distinguished portrait painter.    Both remarkable men are key figures in Scottish History and Culture.

Allan Ramsay (poet) 1684-1758 was a founding father of Romanticism.  He pioneered a new style of writing and in the Scots language which celebrate his love of countryside and rustic life of the time. His most famous work 'The Gentle Shepherd' is set close to the hotel.  His son, also Allan Ramsay, (1713-1784) was probably one of Britain's finest artists, who became portrait painter to the King (George III)  and painted the great and good of the time.
