Allerdale Film Farm - Workshop B

Overview

The Allerdale Film Farm is a ten-day 16mm film making event hosted at Hayton Castle in West Cumbria, which will involve:

  • Eight artists from across the UK coming together to create 16mm films using experimental and ecological processes inspired by the West-Cumbrian landscape. The film farm will include a traditional darkroom and film printing lab, camera’s and camera-less filmmaking techniques;

  • Two experimental filmmaking workshops held over 4 days, for young adults (16 - 25 years old). See details below about how to book a free place for either workshop.

  • One evening dedicated to a public screening showcasing the work created by the artists and workshop participants during their time at the film farm. Description: Participants will have the opportunity to make their own experimental 16mm films with the support of experienced artist film makers.

Cost: Free!

Participants: 8 per workshop (participants should be based in West Cumbria, i.e Allerdale or Copeland district). Please make sure that you have valid ID when requested to verify age.

Location: Hayton Castle Fields

Workshop details:

  • Shooting film using 16mm Bolex cameras.

  • Working directly with film i.e. contact printing, film surface destruction and screen printing.

  • Hand processing 16mm film and experimental developing and tinting and toning (including ecological processes such as caffenol developers and natural plant dyes)

  • An introduction to making and collecting sound (an introduction to microsounds using contact mics, hydrophones and coil pickups, as well as scratching 16mm film).

Allerdale and Copeland area transport provided: We are fortunate to be able to provide transportation in the form of a mini-bus, free for young people living in Allerdale and Copeland area’s. Please email Julia at: allerdalefilmfarm@gmail.com to book a place on the bus.
