Event description
a chance to purely think about, talk about and, most importantly, actually DO some writing.

About this event

Allographic has three forms of live event - our open mic with featured guests every last Sunday of the month; “Allographic presents...”, a loose series of events with bigger names from the spoken word scene, and a burgeoning set of workshops for aspirant poets, storytellers, and other writers and performers.

We will either be having structured workshops (details to follow as each one comes up), or "Write-In"s each week at this time.

What's a Write-In? It's a chance to purely think about, talk about and, most importantly, actually DO some writing. Come with your own project, or seeking inspiration or feedback, drop in at any point in the three hour span, and you'll find some like-minded souls swapping prompts (sometimes from VERY surreal sources) and feedback. Any written artform is fair go, and most prompts work well for prose or poetry (and all sorts of stuff in-between). If you would like to try a particular form, let us know and we'll work it out together if we've never done it before!

Attendees of the workshop should consider putting their new-found skills into practice/ showing off what they've written in the time at our free evening event on the last Sunday of every month, likewise currently on Zoom. And folk at the Write-In will no doubt tell you about other performance and sharing opportunities they know about coming up.

Organiser Allographic

Organiser of Allographic Write-In

Allographic aims to specialise in producing written and recorded publications of poetry, short stories, artwork, photography and music (sometimes all at once...). We plan for our publications to be available to buy online, at our live events, and in the shops, in a variety of media.

We also aim to provide services for writers and performers of poetry, music, and storytelling. Watch this space!

Allographic has three forms of live event - “Other Voices”, open mic with featured guests every last Sunday of the month; “Allographic presents...”, a loose series of events with bigger names from the spoken word scene, and a burgeoning set of workshops for aspirant poets, storytellers, and other writers and performers.

And it's devised, set up, and run by Fay Roberts - a classically-trained singer from Cardiff who has been getting on stages since the early 80s. Ze was finally bitten by the performance poetry bug in Spring 2006 after a favour to a friend turned into a place in the final of a poetry slam.

Ze co-managed and co-hosted Poetry Kapow! with the fabulous Danni Antagonist from 2007-2012 in Milton Keynes, and frequently performs across the Midlands, South East England, and East Anglia. Ze is currently a professional layabout, still sings pretty much everywhere and, since summer 2009, is based in Cambridge, where ze hosts the Cambridge chapter of Hammer & Tongue, and her own poetry label: Allographic.

Fay has performed poetry in pubs, clubs, theatres, tents, shopping centres and stately gardens, in Open Mic, showcases, features, support, collaboration, competition and costume. Sometimes ze bangs a drum, and sometimes ze performs in silence, while the words flutter in front of zir...
