Event description
In this interactive workshop, you will learn about your own privileges and how to use them to step up for others.

About this event

An ally is a member of a social group that enjoys some societal advantages. They work to understand their own privilege takes conscious actions to step up for others, when it is safe for them to do so.

The Open Life Science team members have been trained under Frameshift Consulting and have previously conducted ally workshops at European Molecular Biology Laboratory, The Whitaker Lab at the Alan Turing Institute, CarpentryCon @ Home and as part of the Open Life Science OLS-1, OLS-2 and OLS-3 cohort training.

Attendance is free for Open Life Science mentees, mentors, and experts - please contact the organisers if you have not yet received your discount code.

This training is open to the public for a fee that will go towards supporting the Transbiome research project, a pilot study that helps to map the microbial diversity found in trans women's neovaginas. The study provides urgently needed basic knowledge about the neovagina which can inform future research and help trans women get adequate gynecological health care. We encourage members who would like to and organisations who have funds to sponsor their members to purchase tickets.

We offer low-cost tickets and fee waivers for members interested in participating at this event who would otherwise not be able to attend. The ticket prices are adapted to the country where you live, please refer to the table on this page to check the income group of your country.

  • Full price (199.99GBP): For participants from High Income Countries
  • Discounted (39.99GBP): For participants from (upper/lower) Middle Income Countries, and students from High Income Countries
  • A full fee waiver is available for students from Middle Income Countries, and all participants from Low Income Countries. Waivers are offered on a first-come, first-serve basis as we have a limited number of participants for the workshop.

Please contact team@openlifesci.org to request a fee waiver, or if you have any questions about the event.
