Bishop Robert Paterson will lead this day of reflection and exploration for Authorised Lay Ministers. In the pages of the gospels, and today, Jesus first calls disciples: people who will spend time with him, listen to him, and learn from him. Part of what they learn is how to serve others, and how to engage in ministry and mission, from watching and listening to him.

All of us who are called to ministries in the church need to remember our first calling to be disciples: to spend time with, listen to, and learn from, Jesus. What does discipleship look like in today’s world and church? What does it mean to follow Jesus today, and how does this calling underpin, strengthen and resources us for ministry?
