About this event

  • Event lasts 2 days 8 hours

This August and we’re taking over COAG for “Off The Rack”, a pop-up celebrating individual style.

Fashion’s been caught in a loop. Capsule wardrobes, micro-trends, and endless “cores” — all promising personal style, but all ending up looking the same. Originality has been replaced by repetition.

Not Off The Rack is a pop-up for anyone who wants something else. A space to discover limited pieces from some of the most exciting designers in upcycled fashion.

On Saturday, bring something from your own wardrobe and watch it be transformed. Our designers will be live-customising on-site, turning your old clothes into one-of-a-kind wearable art.

And on Sunday, take making into your own hands. Join our Upcycle Fashion Workshop with ReBloom and learn how to turn old fabric scraps into floral-inspired jewellery.

Why Not Off The Rack

The algorithm is everywhere. It used to be subtle, now it’s your style, your taste, your sense of self. Soft-core, blokecore, clean girl, wrong shoe theory, it’s the same thing, just with a new name. Everyone’s dressing for the scroll, not the street. Somewhere along the way, style stopped feeling personal.

Not Off The Rack is a rebellion to this. It’s about finding one-of-a-kind pieces from emerging and independent designers. Pieces that have creativity and care woven into every stitch. It’s about rediscovering your own sense of style, choosing pieces because you love the designer's style, because they were made by someone you admire, because they feel like you.

Frequently asked questions

Who is Alterist?

Alterist is an upcycle fashion platform that unites a community of upcycled fashion designers, who are using creativity to drive change, transform fashion culture and make a positive impact on our planet.

What is Upcycling?

Upcycling is the process of transforming pre-loved clothing and materials into new, higher-quality products. Think of it as fashion’s creative rebellion, less landfill, more creativity.

Why is upcycling important?

Over 8% of global greenhouse gas emissions come from the fashion industry. Upcycling reduces the demand for new clothing production, which is where 70% of emissions occur. It’s one of the most effective ways to reduce fashion’s environmental footprint + you can support independent designers.

Can I get something custom made?

Yes! Some designers here offer customisation or made-to-order options. Ask our staff
