About this event

From 1–14 September, Alterist will pop up in the Reselfridges destination in the Accessories Hall at Selfridges London for Second Hand September, transforming it into a live working studio and showroom for upcycled fashion.

Throughout the two weeks, ten of the UK’s most exciting upcycle designers will be showcasing and selling their latest collections — limited-run, one-of-a-kind pieces reworked from pre-loved, excess and discarded materials into wearable art.

On select days, the space shifts from shop floor to studio, as five featured designers — KABO, MINSKI, Imogen Fawkes, Dom Okah, and KIPPA — deconstruct, rework, and rebuild garments live in-store.

Live Customisation Schedule

Bring in something you’ve fallen out of love with. Our designers will pierce it, patch it, embroider it, or paint it, transforming it in real time into something entirely new.

Week 1

  • KABO – Thursday 4 Sept & Sunday 7 Sept
  • Transform hats, shoes, and accessories through piercing, giving second-hand pieces a new structure and form.
  • MINSKI – Friday 5 & Saturday 6 Sept
  • Transform your clothes using eyelet piercings, studs and ribbon to manipulate silhouettes and modify your look.

Week 2

  • IMOGEN FAWKES – Thursday 11 Sept
  • Transform pre-loved pieces through machine embroidery and beading, adding intricate embellishment and texture.
  • DOM OKAH – Friday 12 & Saturday 13 Sept
  • Transform your clothes with hand embroidery featuring original illustrations by the artist, layered with texture and narrative.
  • KIPPA – Sunday 14 Sept
  • Transform your garments with bold, character-filled patches that rework and elevate any piece.

NOTE: While you can book in and reserve your spot for live customisations, payment will be taken on the day.

Frequently asked questions

Who is Alterist?

Alterist is an upcycle fashion platform that unites a community of upcycled fashion designers, who are using creativity to drive change, transform fashion culture and make a positive impact on our planet.

What is Upcycling?

Upcycling is the process of transforming pre-loved clothing and materials into new, higher-quality products. Think of it as fashion’s creative rebellion, less landfill, more creativity.

Why is upcycling important?

Over 8% of global greenhouse gas emissions come from the fashion industry. Upcycling reduces the demand for new clothing production, which is where 70% of emissions occur. It’s one of the most effective ways to reduce fashion’s environmental footprint + you can support independent designers.

Can I get something custom made?

Yes! Some designers here offer customisation or made-to-order options. Ask our staff
