ALTERNATIVE APPROACHES TO EDUCATION
What is the purpose of education? Is it about lighting a fire or filling a bucket? Is it about equipping young people to live purposeful and fulfilling lives whilst also making a positive contribution to society?
A growing number of teachers and parents are looking for new ways to educate: ways that will motivate and inspire each and every child. Concerns about mainstream schooling, the focus on testing and the pressures on young people are leading many to ask whether there might be better ways to prepare young people for life in contemporary society.
This seminar will explore:
- Different educational approaches
- Inspiring examples- both within and outside the state system
- How we can work for change
Fiona Carnie, author of Alternative Approaches to Education (published by Routledge) has wide experience of educational alternatives and works with schools and organisations in the UK and Europe to support educational transformation.
