Alternative Australia & New Zealand Wine Tasting
Event Information
About this event
Discover the diversity of grapes now grown down-under.
This fun tasting of 13 wines will include whites and reds from alternative grape varieties which are now proving successful in Australia and New Zealand.
Whilst the main grape varieties still found in their regions include the stalwart Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, Shiraz & Cabernet Sauvignon - there are a wealth of new European grapes which have been planted to help cope with drought and rising temperatures - or have been found suitable for their more temperate regions.
White grapes now being planted include Fiano, Vermentino, Arneis, Marsanne, Gruner Veltliner, Chenin Blanc, Albarino, Sauvignon Gris, Semillon, Verdelho, Viognier, Pinot Blanc & Assyrtiko - and reds include Tempranillo, Mencia, Nero d'Avola, Primitivo, Montepulciano, Sangiovese, Marzemino, Lagrein, Pinotage, Gamay, Zweigelt, St Laurent, Touriga Nacional and more.
This tasting will highlight the best of these newcomers.
No prior knowledge required, just a love of wine.
A selection of artisan cheeses & biscuits will also be served alongside the wines.
Gift vouchers available on request.
Time: 7.30pm-9.30pm
