Description

What is Alternative Dispute Resolution? What do you need to know if you are advising clients involved in a separation? ADR is on the rise. This seminar aims to provide delegates with an overview of the three main alternatives to litigation and detail the types of cases which may be appropriate for each method. It will also discuss practical issues such as the role of the instructing solicitor, funding arrangements and training requirements.

  • Arbitration
  • Mediation

PARTICIPANTS

This seminar will be of interest to solicitors, trainee solicitors and other legal professionals who deal with family law.

SPEAKERS

Shona Templeton, MTM Family Law Solicitors. Shona has been qualified since 1988 and works exclusively in the field of Family Law. She has been Accredited by the Law Society as a Specialist in her field. Shona trained in the area of Collaborative Law back in 2004 and is now trained in Interdisciplinary Collaborative Practice. She is Secretary of the National Collaborative Organisation “Consensus”. Shona is a member of the Family Law Association and has been for many years, previously being an active committee member for the organisation. In 2011 Shona trained as a Family Law Arbitrator and is now a Member of the Family Law Arbitration Group Scotland (FLAGS). She has now been invited to join the National Committee. Shona previously lectured in the field of Family Law and was also appointed as an External Examiner in Private International Law at Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen.

Janie Law, Partner, Family Law Matters Scotland LLP. Janie has more than thirty years’ experience as a solicitor and more than twenty years’ experience as a family mediator. Janie is a CALM Family Mediator, Accredited by the Law Society of Scotland. In 2013 she completed a Master’s Degree in Mediation and Conflict Resolution at the University of Strathclyde, graduating with distinction. She delivers an introductory course in Mediation at Glasgow University as part of their post-qualifying education programme. Janie was the Chair of Mellow Parenting, an international charity based in Govan, Glasgow from 2012 until February 2018 and remains an ex officio member. Janie is a member of the Family Law Association, Consensus Scotland, The International Academy of Collaborative Professionals, CALM and the Glasgow Bar Association.
