Thu 11 May 2017, 18:00 – 21:00 BST
With the world’s urban population forecast to increase by 2.5 billion by 2050, cities are the new frontier for urban designers, developers, contractors, and manufacturers. Livable communities need collaboration and fresh thinking.
The RIBAJ Cities series with ALUK brings together experts to discuss the how to create and sustain better cities in four panel sessions culminating in a one-day workshop to thrash out solutions we can deliver to the challenges that all cities face.
Led by an inspirational practitioner
Peter Head is chair for each of the panels and our workshop leader. He is a champion of sustainable development and an advocate for joined up city thinking. He trained as a civil and structural engineer but is best known for his pioneering work on urbanism at Arup including the influential Dongtan Eco City planning project.
Strong social infrastructure helps cultivate strong communities and harness a city’s resilience. The institutions of schools, hospitals, social care underpin a city’s overall ‘performance’.
Where can architects and construction professionals, collectively, support the delivery of schools, hospitals and community facilities? What are the key challenges?
