Diversity in Chemistry: Different Paths to Success

Following on from last year's enthusiastically-received "Celebrating Women in Chemistry" day, we're broadening this year's event to beyond gender. Our speakers will discuss how diversity benefits scientific research, explore the institutional and often unconscious barriers that currently block inclusion and diversity, and suggest practical reforms. All departmental members (including students and postdocs), alumni and their partners and colleagues are welcome to this event.

Interactive workshops on the following themes (choose one):

• Careers experts from the Royal Society of Chemistry and University of Cambridge will advise on returning to work after a career break and answer your other questions
• Neil Reavey, Co-Chair of Proud Science Alliance and active leader in Inclusion and Diversity at AstraZeneca, will discuss the causes of 'imposter syndrome' and offer practical suggestions on how to overcome it
• Alumna Rivka Isaacson will explore changing attitudes to what constitutes science and breaking down the traditional barriers between science and the arts while Alina Loth will encourage us to use art as a way to communicate our science.

14.30 - 16.00 Wolfson Lecture Theatre

Our panel will answer questions submitted by the audience in a 'Question Time' session open to all alumni and members of the Department, including undergraduates, postgraduates, postdoctoral researchers and academics.

What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?

Parking in the department is extremely limited. If you require a parking space or have mobility issues, please contact Diane Harris at dh473@cam.ac.uk.

I use hearing aids, is there is a hearing loop?

The Unilever and Wolfson Lecture Theatres have hearing induction loops.
