About this event

Join The Stove, the Scottish Poetry Library, and Robert Burns Ellisland Museum & Farm for a special evening of poetry and conversation with Lorna Goodison and Peter Mackay.

The evening celebrates the joint residency at Robert Burns Ellisland Museum & Farm of Scots Makar Peter Mackay and former Jamaican Poet Laureate Lorna Goodison. From their base on the banks of the Nith, they will reflect on how the local landscape shaped Burns’ writing in Scots, while exploring how nature influences their own work—in Scottish Gaelic, and in the fusion of English and Jamaican Creole.

This event is also part of Lorna Goodison’s UK & Ireland tour, where she shares work from her acclaimed new translation of Dante’s Inferno.
