This innovative online course will give learners a vivid insight into the developmental processes that children undergo throughout the early years period, detailing the vital neurological, physical, emotional and cognitive growth that must take place for a child’s healthy development. The course focuses on the key criteria for healthy brain and body growth and shows the developmental processes we must support to ensure our children’s cognitive development reaches its full potential.

Course aims and objectives

• To investigate the developmental processes that children undergo in the first 5 years of life.

• To explore the neuroscience of learning and how practitioners can support cognitive development through the creation of positive associations and hardwired neural networks.

• To look at enriched environments, both human and physical and demonstrate how profoundly they effect development.

• To take a fresh look at child development using the latest research from neurobiology, biochemistry, genetics and evolutionary biology in a way that is universally relevant and accessible to a wide range of learners.

• To focus on the development of behaviour and how we support pro-social behaviour by understanding underlying causes and building the upper brain.

• To look at the inestimable value of shared experiences such as songs, stories and nursery rhymes. To examine strategies for encouraging parent participation in these uniquely effective experiences.

• To take a practical look at the new Education Inspection Framework and what this means for our practice and forthcoming inspections.

• To look at the fundamental importance of concepts such as awe, wonder, joy and compassion and how they significantly underpin development across every area of the EYFS creating growth mindsets for life-long learning and raising aspirations and cultural capital.

• To discuss the evidence for play as the key criteria for healthy brain growth

• To inspire practitioners to be the best they can for their children.
