This vital introduction to Play and Playwork gives a firm foundation for working in a wraparound setting. It details exactly why play is so essential for children and then explores the adult’s role in supporting play, giving a wealth of concrete strategies and ideas to support positive play for our children.
The course details the crucial differences between playwork and other disciplines and gives new playworkers a clear road map for radically improving the wraparound experience for their children.
The course also introduces learners to some of the fascinating research behind play and highlights the key playwork theories which have a direct practical application to their work.
The course also showcases a series of practical games and experiences to share with children.
The course is entertaining, thought-provoking and delivered by a trainer who has over 30 years’ experience working within the sector.
On Completion of the course £30 Supply Cover will be paid to the Setting.

He has won the National Playwork Award for Best Trainer for his work with Playwork Settings and his distinctive blend of humour, neuroscience and real-life practical experiences have made his training invaluable for anyone working with children. He is also the Managing Director of Inspired Children and has worked with vulnerable children across the UK for over 35 years. His game-changing book about play, “A Very Unusual Journey into Play” has gained widespread acclaim and his new book, “Why Children Need Joy” was a finalist for a Nursery World Award for best professional book 2024, where it was awarded “highly commended”.
