Event Details

Join author, academic and The Cass senior lecturer Sunny Singh for the launch of her ground-breaking book on Indian film star Amitabh Bachchan.

Amitabh Bachchan’s transnational fame as one of cinema’s biggest global stars is both unprecedented and unparalleled. His career spans five decades and stretches the boundaries of the very meaning of stardom. Actor, singer, politician, television host and national icon, he is mobbed by frenzied fans in streets from Mumbai to Cairo, London to Kuala Lumpur, New York to Lagos, and towers like a demi-god in the Indian imagination.

In this study, the first of its kind, Sunny examines Bachchan’s film performances and persona in the context of global culture and branding, and explores the reasons behind the longevity of his stardom.  This illuminating analysis assesses the full range of Bachchan’s work, personality and influence - political, social, economic and technological.

Sunny will discuss her book, Amitabh Bachchan's screen career and persona, and Bollywood cinema
with Professor Daya Thussu of the University of Westminster at 7pm.
There will be time for questions from the audience.

Drinks and snacks will be served.
