Participation for Universal Services Masterclass Webinar

Level 1: Foundations of Practice

Who is this course for?

This masterclass day offers practical guidance for organisations and individuals working in services that provide mental health support to children, young people and their families.

It will be especially helpful for:

  • Organisations who would like to increase the participation of parents and carers in their work.
  • Mental Health services looking to broaden the scope of participation, or to share ideas with others.
  • Professionals with a responsibility for organisational participation who are new to this area of work or want to develop their confidence in working with parents and carers.

Morning session: Introduction to the participation of young people, parents and carers

At the end of this course you will be able to:

  • Describe the participation values and standards outlined in Delivering With, Delivering Well and Parent’s Say, and how they relate to your organisation.
  • Audit your organisations participation activity in the context of Delivering With, Delivering Well and Parent’s Say in relation to individual care and service development.
  • Identify barriers, enablers and opportunities for the participation of young people, parents, and carers in shared decision making, self-care management, and care planning within CAMHS settings.
  • Identify barriers, enablers and opportunities for the participation of young people, parents and carers in service improvement, design, delivery and evaluation within CAMHS settings.
  • Access a range of resources to support you in developing parent and carer participation within your organisation.

Afternoon Session: Promotion, prevention and participation

At the end of this course you will be able to:

  • Explain how participation can support promotion, prevention and early intervention in young people’s mental health
  • Describe a range of participation models and activities to involve young people in mental health promotion
  • List the types of motivators and barriers for young people around engaging in mental health self-care and young people’s priorities when it comes to accessing mental health information and advice
  • Describe the type of outcomes young people desire in relation to their mental health
  • Apply a process for co-producing mental health promotional activities with young people
  • Access a range of resources to support you in developing participation within your organisation.
