About this event

  • Event lasts 1 hour 30 minutes

[This event has been rescheduled from Sat 1 March – all Amps are welcome, whether they'd booked for the previous event or not.]

Creative Dundee's Amps network includes freelancers, students and people who support creativity in the city – including folks who work at some of Dundee's cultural and creative organisations and institutions. Join us for a behind the scenes tour of the Local History Centre at Central Library!

Amps will be guided by historian Erin Farley, sharing the plentiful resources the centre offers, as well as a peek into the stacks and rare books collection. The Local History Centre has a collection of over 20,000 items, including books, pamphlets and directories relating to the City of Dundee and surrounding areas, as well as an extensive collection of prints, photographs, postcards, maps and plans. We'll also have time to connect and chat afterwards – grab a hot drink and meet other local artists, designers, makers and doers in the network.

Tickets are free and limited. Booking is required, but if you're unable to join us on the day, we'd be grateful if you could return your ticket so that someone else can attend.

This tour is wheelchair accessible and assistance dogs are welcome. Additional information about access at Central Library is available via AccessAble, but if you have any questions about access, particularly detail on the Local History Centre which isn't specifically listed on AccessAble, please get in touch.

This event is for Amps only – become an Amp and come along!

Frequently asked questions

What is Amps?

Amps is a community of people who make and cultivate creativity in Dundee, working together to collectively build on the future of the city. We connect through events and projects designed to help establish links, showcase work and develop collaborations. New supporters are always welcome.

How do I join Amps?

You can join via Creative Dundee's website (https://creativedundee.com/amps). We’ve tried to make the options as affordable as possible, but if cost is a barrier to joining, please get in touch to ask us about our Pay It Forward subscriptions.

I have a question about access.

Please email jen@creativedundee.com with any questions. Our venue is wheelchair accessible with an accessible toilet, and assistance dogs are welcome.

I haven't been to an Amps event before – what are they like?

Our Amps events are structured but informal opportunities to meet others in the network. We appreciate it’s daunting to be in a space with lots of people, some/many who you might be meeting for the first time – feel free to grab fresh air any time you like.

What refreshments will there be?

We'll have teas, coffees, fruit juice and water at this event. Please note that you'll be unable to bring food or drink into the Local History Centre itself, with the exception of bottled water/water in a refillable bottle.
