An Afternoon with Tommy Caldwell: A Climber’s Journey of Endurance, Risk, and Going Beyond Limits

In 2015 Tommy Caldwell captivated the world when he and Kevin Jorgeson climbed the Dawn Wall - the forbidding 3,000-foot-high southwest face of El Capitan, in California's Yosemite Valley. The astonishing ascent, hailed as 'the hardest climb of all time', was not the first time Tommy's determination and ambition saw him through moments of incredible survival. This was, in fact, a climb that represented the end of a difficult recovery from the trauma of being held hostage by rebels during an earlier climbing expedition in Kyrgyzstan.

Join free climbing legend Tommy Caldwell at the Royal Geographical Society for a fascinating afternoon introducing his new memoir The Push: A Climber’s Journey of Endurance, Risk, and Going Beyond Limits. Recounting his 19-day journey of extreme endurance battling up the sheer face of the Yosemite wall and the insurmountable courage it took to withstand being captured by violent extremists at gunpoint, Tommy's story will surely prove just what strength can be mustered in times of intense adversity.

Congratulated by President Obama for a feat he had previously been told he had no hope of achieving, don’t miss your chance to pose your question during the audience Q&A and hear directly from the man who made history by achieving the ‘impossible’.

Tommy will be signing and dedicating books after the event so stick around after the talk to meet him in person. All tickets include a copy of The Push (RRP £20) and will be available for collection on the night from the on-site bookshop.
