In preparation for the Spring Ball, which this year will feature work exploring themes from William Blake’s Songs of Innocence and Experience, Cubitt Education presents ‘An Afternoon with William Blake’.
Saturday 18th May
2.00 -5.00 pm
St Luke’s Community Centre
Join us for an afternoon of activities exploring the work of William Blake, in particular, Songs of Innocence and of Experience.
The afternoon will be multi-media, exploratory and experimental: using different mediums and approaches to explore ideas collaboratively. Experienced artists are welcome alongside members of the local community.
Workshops led by artists and choreographers will explore William Blake’s visionary text and images.
- A workshop with artist Darren Marshall will look at the figure in Blake’s work, using watercolours and inks to recreate Blake’s techniques and develop new experimental forms.
- Choreographer Simona Scotto will explore emotional and figurative themes within Blake through dance and choreography.
- A workshop with sound and installation artist Rosanna Greaves will use Blake’s words to inspire new texts and soundworks.
Further activities to be confirmed.
The event is free, but please book online to let us know you're coming.
The afternoon takes place at the fantastic St. Luke's Community Centre. It is a newly refurbished community centre walking distance from Old Street, and features a range of activities for local people.
